about

For longer than I can remember I’ve thrown the occasional Bruce song in at shows. Despite thirty years of writing to try and make sense of the path I was on, there was a reference point within Bruce’s material that I was able to engage and connect with and make my own. He was making sense of that journey for me and the music came along side and became a great friend. That was worth passing on and of course it always drew an audience in that much closer.

Through his songs the vision became bigger and the despair a little smaller. That ability to take you to the very edge of yourself but throw you a beautiful promise before he left you there. And when fatigued by the road, but needing to find something to take out to an audience, I would always listen to a song like ‘The Promise’ where ‘everyday it just gets harder to live the dream your believing in’ and it would always, without fail, lift me to the point of wanting to carry that honesty and integrity to the stage and play that night as if it were my last chance.

This is an attempt to frame immense gratitude through the request of many kind folk to ‘record them’. I gave it a go. They are mere shadows of the original songs but I hope that somewhere in the delivery it would become obvious to the listener that Bruce achieved everything he set out to do when he wrote these songs and that they simply made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the world.
